How does one "sexy?"

So if you don't know, I'm a dancer. I'm not exactly sure why it is that I'm telling this story, but it's late as I'm writing this so just go with it.

Once I was dancing backup for an artist and in one particular part of the show, the singer was to run off stage to do a wardrobe change.  During the time while she was changing, we dancers were suppose to make our way to the front of the stage and "be sexy"

...lol...be sexy.

In rehearsals everyone just marked through the "sexy time" not really making any effort, assuming everyone would know what they were doing come showtime. Each time it got to that part in the show I would just kindof joke around and make weird faces to make the other dancers laugh.

The night of the show we did a quick run-through of counts and choreography then made our way backstage for hair and makeup.

Show starts, we're all dancing hard, hitting choreo hard. The energy onstage was great, the crowd was amazing, everything seems to be going off as planned.

So the musical cue hit and the singer runs off for wardrobe change as we all strut to the front of the stage.

THEN... IT HIT ME-

As I looked to my left and to my right I could see  my fellow dancer serving up some SERIOUS sexual  chocolate, where as I was serving Danimals Yogurt realness.

-I HAD NO FREAKING IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING!!!!
I stood there in complete panic for what felt like 5 years, when in actuality it was probably 4 seconds.

I had NOT fully thought through the fact that, come showtime, I'd have to actually have a "sexy" thinggy planned.
I don't effin know how to be sexy yo!????

AND- if that's not bad enough, I could see the poor people in the front row directly in front of me.  While the entire crowd was jumping and dancing and yelling for the other dancers who were so effectively engaging, those poor souls in front of me just looked about as confused and uncomfortable as I was- awkwardly staring out into the audience making a pathetic attempt at licking my lips and grinding my hips around for like .5 seconds.  I'm pretty sure after that I just dropped into a squat and stayed there the entire time hahahaha

A SQUAT, A FREAKING SQUAT PEOPLE!!! THE LEAST SEXY BODY POSITION EVER!!!!!!!!

Oh man... that was seriously one of THEE longest few minutes of my life!

I wish I could say there was some dramatic life lesson to be learned from this, but if there is, I've yet to discover it.
For now it just ranks as one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. haha

Exceeding limits

DANCERS:
Never limit yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a dancer, I have come to realize that this has to be one the absolute MOST important things a dancer can ever learn.
A good dancer continually studies their style of dance.  A great dancer continually studies them all.
It makes me so mad when I am in class, whether it be hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and I hear dancers saying--
in the OH-So-Snooty-way only a dancer can say
"oh, I don't do ballet." "I don't do jazz" " I am strictly a modern dancer"... etc etc.
                                                 UGH
If you don't learn to adapt as a dancer, you will never last in the industry.  As I have seen many a rising star come and go I realize, yes, you may have your moment; However the true talent is the dancer who trains their body to do adapt to every genre of dance. It's all about longevity yo. That is where the real talent lies.
this pic pretty much sums me up
 Never ever limit yourself.
If you are a hip hop dancer, get your ass in ballet.  Modern dancer? Try  a Housing class (and a ballet class because every dancer should always do ballet)
There is an entire world of dance waiting for you to explore if only you can let go of your fear/ego and just let your body explore the movement.

Where have you been all my li-i-i-i-i-ife

Recently I had an amazing opportunity to dance with one of the most incredible dancers I have ever had the privilege to dance next to.

I have taken from some extraordinary teachers with pretty awesome credentials and I will say Mark Kanemura is ranked right up there with the "Elites."
Mark Kanemura and I (Jeshua Viveiros)

I would say that taking Mark's class was one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my dancing career.  Not to mention when I took his class I had just come off a two month European sabbatical. And by European sabbatical, I mean the sabbatical where I ate everything in sight (mostly carbs..soo yeah) and danced 0 days out of those 2 months while in Europe. Yes, that's right, I was SUPER out-of-shape when I decided to take an extremely athletic class.

Awesome    -___-

hah
 Anyways...
I was majorly slightly intimidated in the beginning but Mark made us all feel very welcome. He was surprisingly very humble and kind. And let me tell you, he has every reason to be cocky and full of himself.  He treated all the dancers with respect and humility which is, unfortunately, all too UNcommon when it comes to choreographers.  I can only hope to one day be a strong of a dancer as he.

Homeboy's DOPE!

And even with his success and talent he still makes it a point to keep it real.  I have met far too many demi-successful people who belittle and talk down to others in order to establish some sort of "dominance" and "superiority". In other words, they like to make themselves feel less insecure by tearing you and your talent down.

Besides learning an amazing, fun, exhaustingly brilliant routine, I took so much more from that class: Treat people with respect and dignity because we are all people no matter what color, upbringing, language, dialect, hairstyle, talent level or amount of success.  Each person has a heart that beats just like yours and mine (unless they have an arrhythmia or something....then it's different....but still the same....I have trouble staying on point).

So, if you are someone who has been made to feel inadequate or belittled by someone you know, it's time to remove that person from your life... break free from their hold because all that negativity gives them control over you and holds you back from achieving your full potential.

AND, if you are one of those people who is so unfulfilled and insecure about your own existence that you feel the need to tear others down in order to make yourself feel like you have accomplished something in your life STOP.  You will NEVER get to where you want to be by hurting others...you will just end up alone and bitter while life moves on all around you.

Can you tell that I've had absolutely NO personal experience with this at all? *SARCASM*

Heavy exhale.
